Addressing
•Why it is important to write Address Correctly?
Addressing is the most
important part of sending your package. If the address is not complete and
correct, the package may not reach its destination. The legibility and
understandability in India and country of destination is equally important.
•What
is complete and correct Address?
The address is complete when it has all
details in the given sequence starting from the name of the person, house/room
number, name of house/building, name of block/apartment, name of the
area/locality, name of the road/street, name of delivery post office, name of
the District/City, name of the state/province and name of the country with
PINCODE/ZIPCODE. Mentioning Telephone/Mobile number of both Addresses and
Sender (just below the address portion) will provide extra convenience in
reaching out to the concerned. Mobile number will help in giving SMS alerts as
well, wherever available.
•Where to write Address?
The
addressee’s address need to be written on the top right hand side on the front
surface of the packet/envelope. The sender’s address may be written on the top
left hand side of the front surface or alternatively on the back side of the
package. Adequate space margin can be left on the edges of the packet/envelope
for better handling. This also saves address from getting obliterated in
transmission.
•How to write address?
The address may
preferably be in printed form i.e. printed and pasted on the package. This
helps in proper reading by eliminating mistakes in reading out ‘handwritten’
addresses. However, if no possible to have printed address, good quality pen
to be used for writing address. Address may be written preferably in BLOCK
CAPITALS to avoid mis-reading of address by postal staff. A transparent-
waterproof cover on the address portion through a plastic sheet or transparent
cello tape etc will provide safeguard to the address from water etc while in
transmission.
•What Language to be used?
The
addresses need to be written in English or French or in the language
understood in the country of destination. However, when address written is in
language other than English, the city and country of destination need to be
written in English as well for understanding of postal staff in India.
•What
else need to write on packet?
It is required to indicate the
category/type of service through which the packet is being sent on the top of
the packet viz. “Printed Paper”, “Small Packet”, “Literature for the Blind”
etc. as the case may, should be made on the top of the packet above
address.
Packaging
International shipments are handled multiple times and are subjected to long
air travels and customs examination. In addition to these, the shipments are
processed through X-Ray and other security equipments apart from sorting
machines multiple times. Good and sturdy packaging will ensure that your items
reach to your dear ones safely.
•What size of packet to be used?
The
size of packet for packing your stuffs for international shipment is very
important. The size of packet should be chosen such a way that your stuffs fit
in comfortably. At the same time it should not leave empty space inside the
packet. Empty space gives free movement of items inside the packet and may
lead to damaging of items/packets while in transmission. The empty space, if
any, inside the packet may be filled with shredded paper or thermocol pieces
or air filled polythene bags or wood shavings etc.
•What type of
packaging material to be used?
The packaging material must be in
consonance with the type and weight of the item. For example, for iron item of
5 kg needs sturdier packaging material than that required for paper bundle of
5 kg. The packet must be packed adequately to prevent any leakage from the
packet during the course of transmission. The contents must have been put in
protective cover inside the packet to prevent damage to the contents.
•Whether
cloth wrapping is required?
The cloth wrapping of postal shipments needs
to be avoided as far as possible as the stickers such as item identifier,
postal booking receipts etc do not stick properly on cloths and comes out
during transmission. However, in case cloth wrapping could not be avoided, it
is recommended that the whole packet may be covered with a transparent good
quality plastic sheet so as to avoid missing of necessary stickers.
•How
to pack glass items?
Glass or other fragile objects: the packing must
consists of a box of metal, wood, strong plastic material or strong cardboard,
filled with paper, wood shavings or any other appropriate protective material
to prevent any friction or knocking during transport either between the
objects themselves or between the objects and the sides of the box;
•How
to pack liquid items?
Liquids and substances which easily liquefy: they
should be enclosed in perfectly leak-proof containers. Each container should
be placed in a special box of metal, wood, strong plastic material or strong
corrugated card board, containing enough saw dust, cotton, wood or any other
appropriate protective material to absorb the liquid should the container
break. The lid of the box should be fixed so that it cannot easily work loose;
containing an appropriate protective material to absorb the liquid should the
container break.
