POSTAL DIARY-5

Postman Saikia has not arrived yet to office. Except him all other postmen have already started sorting their own beat letters and articles. There are seven postmen in that Post office. Two young youth are awaiting for postman Saikia. One asked , “Uncle, will Postman Saikia come to office or not today ?” “Brother , he will come. He comes from long distance , so sometimes he is late . Do n’t mind , he will come .”- Senior postman Harsha Sarma replied.
After a while Saikia attends office. On seeing him immediately one of the youths said to him , “ Saikia da, we are waiting for you since longtime. Is there any letter in my name ?”
“You are Mr. Abhay Baruah no ? There is not any letter in your name . Let me see today’s mails . Will you wait ?” – said postman Saikia. Immediately Abhay Baruah becomes angry and started to search Saikia, “Listen Mr. Saikia , why you always tell a lie? What do you do my letters ? Why don’t you deliver my letters ?”
“Oh brother , I know you well. Are you not son of Mr. Khagen Baruah? What will I do with your letters ? I must deliver if anything received in your name , if nothing, what will I deliver to you ?”
“No no , why nothing will be in my name ? You are not doing your duty properly . I will complain against you . I must complain.” – with angry mood both the youths rush to office room of Postmaster of the Post office. Postmaster Shukla was there checking some passed NREGA bills .
“May I come in Sir ?”- takes permission and lodges complaint against postman Saikia.
After going out Postmaster Shukla calls Sri Saikia and asked , “Mr. Saikia , how do you do your duties ? Don’t you deliver all articles ?”
“Sir , I know both the two youths come here to complain , but sir what I will do if nothing received in his name ? “ –replied Postman saikia.
Postmaster Shukla thought a while . “Ok Mr Saikia , But mind it there should not be any complaint in any case. Public are always right , understand ?”
All postmen staff are angry with the behavior and complaint of the youth. One of the postmen staff Biren Das said, I worked in that beat . I know well his family , his father was also like that . like father , like son. I was also harassed when I worked in that beat.”
After three months again the young boy comes to complain to Postmaster . In the first view Postmaster Shukla sir can remember him . He said , “Yes Mr. Baruah ?”
“Sir , If you have not forgotten I came this Post office three months before hand and complained against postman Saikia . But I have again another complain sir .”-he said.
“Another complain ?”- Shukla sir was socked.
“Sir , now I am receiving letters . But the letters have no meaning . I can not determine who actually send the letters to me ??”
“What will we do now ? Once you complained that postman did not deliver your letters and now you are complaining who have been sending letters to you ? Mr. Baruah, what ever, I will enquire the matter immediately. Let me know your mobile No. after enquire I will inform you the result . OK ?”
Postmaster Shukla Sir calls immediately postman saikia. What’s happenings ? But Saikia was already out and went to his beat. Senior Postman D. Talukdar was there and come to PMs chamber . Postmaster asked him , “What is the matter Mr. Talukdar ? What’s happenings ?”
Talukdar said , “Sir we all know that particular family. Every one of their neighbor calls them ‘complaint master’.”
“Is it ?”- told Postmaster Shukla.
“Yes Sir. When the boy came here to complain postman Saikia was afraid . As there were no letters in his name what he would do ? Then we all gave him a suggestion .”
“What kind of suggestion Mr. Talukdar ?”
“Sir, in Facebook any one can make friend request to another one. As like , some of ours wrote letters to that A. Baruah of varities viz. advertisement , spiritual information etc. and post in his name.”
“Oh god , what kind suggestion it is Mr. Talukdar?”
“No other way Sir. No letter in his name , what will we do ? He can lodge complaint against you also to the Supdt. Sir that you have not taken any action regarding the matter. So , we play this drama Sir.”
Postmaster Shukla Sir laughs a while. Then he used to call to Mr. Abhay Baruah in his mobile no. Shukla said , “Mr Baruah , I enquire the whole matter . Actually you never believe the Post office and Postal staffs. . Please try to believe Postman and Post office. Actually You have ‘problem of faith’. Let correct yourself and see everything is OK .”
